All Chemical joins HAZMAT drill with Lubrizol and the City of Clifton, NJ
OCT. 2024—All Chemical Transport Corp. participated in a successful joint HAZMAT drill—along with their customer, Lubrizol Advanced Materials Inc., and the City of Clifton municipality officials—to simulate a chemical spill onsite at the customer’s facility in Clifton, New Jersey. Using non-potable water to simulate the spill, teams and officials assessed the situation, donned Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), performed environmental and risk assessments, evaluated air quality, launched hazard control abatement procedures, and tested communication systems. The results of the drill were used to refine emergency response protocols for the city’s officials, businesses, and other governmental agencies involved, in the event of an actual HAZMAT incident.
Bill Fisher, one of All Chemical’s truck drivers, gave first responders thorough instruction in the framework and operation of our trailer valves and pumps, as well as an in-depth overview of the trailer’s emergency shut-down system. (The system triggers an immediate cutoff of the flow of product in the event of a chemical emergency, product leak, fire, or other hazardous incident.) Multiple officials involved highly praised Fisher’s comprehensive knowledge of the equipment and excellent articulation of its operation.
Jennifer Terwilliger, the Clifton Health Department’s Hazmat Coordinator/REHS with the City of Clifton, shared about the event, “We involved the whole city and our partners, state, local, and county. This also tested our city emergency response plan.” Officials agreed the drill was a huge success, allowing many agencies present to gain knowledge of the working components of a DOT 407 chemical tank. “We want to thank you guys; you did a great job,” said Nick Paolazzi, Lubrizol Advanced Materials Inc.’s spokesperson. “You want to see issues happen in a drill, not in a real-life situation.”
Groups involved in the training and drill included KAG Logistics, Lubrizol Advanced Materials Inc., New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), New Jersey State Police- Emergency Management & SERC Planner, Passaic County Health officials, Passaic County Sheriff’s HAZMAT team, Passaic County Office of Emergency Management (OEM), City of Clifton Police Department, Clifton Fire Department/Hazmat Team, Clifton Health Department, Wayne Fire Department’s Special Response Team and St. Joseph’s Health-Emergency Management & Preparedness Team.
