From Dispatch to Delivery: Inside a Chemical Transportation Operation

At All Chemical, our chemical transportation operation relies on precision with every facet of our day. Every haul requires more than just getting from A to B. In fact, from the moment an order is placed to the time our truck pulls in to make the delivery, there’s a dedicated effort to ensure your shipment arrives safely and on time.

Here’s an inside look at our chemical transportation company and how we manage each order with care from pickup to safe delivery.

The Details in an Order Request

The process begins when we receive the customer order. Unlike ordering food, where choices are simple and familiar, an order for bulk chemicals is far more complex. It requires precise details such as whether the chemical is corrosive or non-corrosive, the quantity to be transported, special equipment requirements, regulatory classifications, and any special handling instructions.

Once we receive all the details, and get the proper documentation in order, we can schedule the shipment and plan the route.

Dispatch Coordination

Once the order is confirmed, our dispatch team takes charge to coordinate the different aspects involved. They’ll match the product with the necessary equipment and schedule the appropriate service (including special washes, tank preparations, or heating). They’ll also assign an experienced driver to handle the delivery. Before the trip, dispatchers share critical updates such as road restrictions, traffic conditions, and construction to help ensure a safe and seamless delivery.

Precise Loading of Chemical Products

Loading procedures vary depending on the type of chemical. In some cases, we load at the customer’s facility, while others require loading at a terminal or directly at a plant. No matter the location or product, our crew follows strict protocols to ensure the process is carried out safely and correctly, while performing thorough checks for product integrity, leaks, and pressure.

Transporting the Chemicals

Our drivers are in control while out on the road. They’re highly trained, certified, and go through rigorous testing to make sure they have the expertise and discipline required to safely handle the responsibilities of chemical transportation. During transit, we ensure that our GPS tracking is operating to provide transparency for both our dispatchers and our customers. Our drivers maintain safe driving practices by adhering to marked speed limits and taking the required rest breaks to ensure that they are sharp and focused while behind the wheel.

Delivering the Chemicals

The delivery process involves several important steps to ensure safety and accuracy. Upon arrival, the customer may take product samples and direct the driver on how to position the truck. They may also decide whether the driver will connect hoses and fittings or if their own staff will handle the setup. The facility staff then inspects the load, reviews the paperwork, and oversees the unloading process. Our driver assists as required, ensuring that all safety procedures are followed.

Because different chemicals require specific unloading methods, the driver works closely with the facility to ensure the product is handled properly. After unloading, the driver collects the necessary signatures and conducts a post-delivery inspection before returning to our depot.
